FIFO Counselling was founded in Baldivis WA in 2010 by Principal Counsellor, Anthony Ward.

In the early days, Anthony graduated from Bible College in 1996 with a Grad.Dip. in Theology, already offering Pastoral Care to Church Youth and Young Adults. He joined the Sonshine FM Careline as a volunteer Crisis Care Telephone Counsellor and did so over 12 years around his work and studies.

In 2008 Anthony started working FIFO in the mining industry upon completing a Cert IV in Small Business Management, along with previous qualifications and management experience, he started as a Relief Mine Camp Manager in the Pilbara of WA.  As a Camp Manager, Anthony saw first hand the need for counselling support for FIFO workers. In 2008, Anthony completed the Red  Dust Healing (Indigenous Mat Counselling) facilitator course in Brisbane. I
n 2010 he  Graduated from the University of Notre Dame (Fremantle WA) with a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and started 'FIFO Counselling'.

In 2014, Anthony Ward completed a Cert IV in TAE ATSI  with a view of training new FIFO workers with, 'Preparing & Coping with FIFO',  workshops @ AWDC in Perth city. The workshops are still held every quarter and more information is available at FIFO Workshops.

In 2014, Anthony completed a Cert III in Mentoring (ATSI) to formalise Mentoring for use on-site or in local communities as a follow-up support for new workers, workshop attendees and counselling clients. Anthony identified a need for some ATSI workers who need a hands-on soft landing to site, e.g., to adjust to the regimented FIFO work, camp / village life schedule, assistance in connecting to camp social groups, sporting activities, maintaining family and community relations.

Over five years, Anthony  managed 18 different camps in a Relief, Assistant or Camp Manager role working for facility management companies. He has worked on BHP, RIO Tinto, FMG, Newmont Gold, Barrick Gold, Newmont Gold, Consolidated Minerals and Sino mine camps, (+ others), from 120 -7000 camp residents. In 2013, Anthony was recognised as Australia's Most Capped Mine Camp Manager and was a nominated Finalist in the Australian Mining Prospect Awards in 3 categories.

Indigenous heritage: ATSIC confirmed Anthony Ward is a descendant of Elder Barney of the Ourangan mob in QLD near Hervey Bay. The early colonial settlers killed Elder Barney's mob to grow sugar cane on the island. The took him alive and kept him prisoner on the Governor's land as a prize prisoner. After a number of years, the Governor's daughter Eliza, who's job was to feed the prisoner, fell in love with him. After much pleading, they were allowed to marry. Below is a photograph of my Great Grandfather and his wife on their wedding day.
